5 Social Media Updates And Trends: October 2025
Written by Hannah O’Toole

1: You Can Now Track Your Shares and Saves On Linkedin
LinkedIn is rolling out two significant new additions to its post analytics: “Saves” and “Sends.” This moves your performance metrics beyond simple likes and comments, giving you deeper insights into how your audience truly values your content. You’ll now see both “Saves” and “Sends on LinkedIn” within your Engagement data.
- Saves (Bookmarks): Saves have become a highly valuable indicator of engagement across social platforms, revealing which content your audience finds so valuable that they want to keep tabs on it.
- Sends (Private Shares): This tracks how often your post was shared via a private LinkedIn message. With Direct Message (DM) engagement rising rapidly, sends are an increasingly important indicator of content that’s highly relevant and worth sharing one-on-one.
These new elements provide actionable data on what resonates most, allowing you to refine your strategy and create content that is genuinely valuable to your audience.

2: How Do You Create a Captivating Video On LinkedIn? Text hooks, visual switch-ups, and more…
According to LinkedIn Senior Director of Product, Lakshman Somasundaram, video is growing at 1.6 times the rate of any other format on the platform, making it the most important content type to master right now.
They’ve studied top-performing videos to offer tips on creating content that truly stands out. So what do you need to do to make your videos perform well on Linkedin…
- Use a Short Onscreen Text Hook: Grab attention immediately with clear, punchy text overlaid on the video in the first few seconds.
- Ensure Captions Are Visually Appealing: Make your captions look good. Use clean formatting and appropriate styling, as most videos are initially watched with the sound off.
- Vary Visual Changes: Keep your video dynamic and engaging by frequently switching up the visuals. Incorporate B-roll footage and quick snippets to prevent the viewer from tuning out.
- Experiment and Adapt: The LinkedIn algorithm is constantly evolving. Continuously test different styles and formats to see what resonates best with your specific audience, and adjust your strategy based on those results.

3: Is Instagram Now Letting You Change Your Own Algorithm?
Instagram is making a significant shift by testing a new Algorithm Overview that puts users in charge of the content they see in their Reels feed.
This new control option highlights the topics Instagram thinks you’re interested in, but now you can easily edit them. You can manually remove subjects or add others for a truly personalised experience. Instagram even shows you examples of the Reels you’ll see in each subject group, offering transparency over your feed.

4: What Are LinkedIn Renaming their Ad Campaign Elements?
If you manage ads on LinkedIn, some familiar elements in Campaign Manager are about to get new names.
LinkedIn recently announced that they are updating the names of certain elements to better align with general ad industry standards and improve clarity.
As explained by LinkedIn: “To improve clarity across Campaign Manager, we’re updating the naming of entities within the campaign hierarchy. This hierarchy, also known as the ad campaign structure, defines how campaigns are organised and managed.” Watch out for these two key changes:
- What you currently know as a “Campaign Group” will now be labelled “Campaign.”
- What you currently refer to as a “Campaign” will now be called “Ad Set.”

5: Reels Gain Two New Features On Facebook
Facebook is pushing hard to boost Reels engagement, announcing updates that aim to increase watch time, a format already generating over 3.5 billion shares daily across Facebook and Instagram.
New Engagement Indicators – First, Facebook is rolling out “friend bubbles” on Reels and feed posts, which highlight content that your friends have liked. Now, as you scroll, you’ll see posts recommended by your personal network. If you’re a heavy Instagram user, this won’t be new, but it provides a significant new pointer for Facebook users.
Improved Discoverability – Facebook is also making algorithm improvements designed to surface newer videos faster, enhancing discoverability. They are adding TikTok-style topic search links to the bottom of the Reels display, making it easy to jump straight into more content on that specific subject.
