The Story of How I Became We

Marketing Statistics 2024

Why Did We Make The Change?

Team: I Do Marketing was founded in 2016; our Director Lydia began with just herself and her trusty laptop; fast forward 8 years, and we are now a team of 7!

Name: I Do Marketing reflected Lydia’s desire for business owners to feel empowered and in control of their marketing. While that spirit remains, we’ve grown and evolved, proudly operating as We Do Marketing.

Approach: This shift reflects our collaborative approach. We don’t just handle your marketing; we become a true partner, working with your team to develop and execute strategies that directly support your business objectives. Our core services haven’t changed, but our focus is more strategic, ensuring every marketing activity aligns seamlessly with your overall goals.

What Have We Changed?

A rebrand requires a lot more planning than you may initially think. As we know from helping our clients through theirs, there can be many changes along the way, not including deciding on what the rebrand will look like!

Did you know?

When a company updates its brand, on average, 215 assets will need to be updated?

As we have already mentioned (and hopefully it’s rather obvious by now), we have changed our name alongside a full re-brand, changing colours, fonts, graphics… the lot! As you can see, we have not entirely removed the purple! How could we? However, we have added other colours to the mix, including:

  • Dark Purple
  • Navy
  • Lilac
  • Mustard Yellow
  • Mint Blue

The distinct shapes and graphics are derived from the W, E, D, and O, subtly transformed from our name. These shapes allow us to use our new vibrant colours across our marketing materials while maintaining a clear and consistent connection to “We Do.”

Every branding decision reflects our careful consideration of We Do Marketing’s future and business goals; after extensive planning, we’re ready to live out our mission.

Mission

WE are on a mission to build regional centres of marketing excellence that empower business leaders to DO smart MARKETING and achieve their ambitions.

So, how did we navigate all of these changes?

How?

As for most things we do here at We Do Marketing, we collaborate as a team and going through a re-brand is no different.

We worked together, using our strengths to pull this considerable change off! We’ve all loved working on this and watching it come together. It’s taken time, teamwork and a lot of thought to ensure everything has been updated and communicated.

So who’s done what?

Around a year ago, I started the process of changing our brand. I’m not ashamed to say it has taken a LONG time to bring it to fruition! You shouldn’t rush these things!

At first, I thought adding a couple of new colours to our palette would suffice, but then I looked deeper and the evolution of ‘I Do’ to ‘We Do’ felt so natural.

This meant significant changes were needed.
Ironically, our new logo has only changed a little bit!

That said, we have changed it everywhere! My main task through all of this has been planning, reviewing everything and ensuring we stay on brand… The new brand that is!

Of course, I always LOVE working with my team but seeing each of them bring OUR vision to life has been a real treat for me – we do this for clients all the time, so to do it for us is just awesome!

I had the exciting opportunity to explore how we could utilise our social media channels to showcase our rebrand. This involved careful consideration of several factors.

Beyond announcing the rebrand on social media, we needed to ensure our social media presence fully reflected our new identity. This included:

  • Updating our social media logo and cover photos
  • Refreshing our bio descriptions and website URL
  • Redesigning our Instagram highlights
  • Updating our pinned posts

We developed a comprehensive plan to implement these changes on launch day.

Alongside our social media identity strategy, we wanted to ensure a smooth transition from ‘I Do’ to ‘We Do’ and avoid a big change to our social media feed from one day to the next. To do this, we gradually introduced elements of our new colour palette in the weeks leading up to the launch.

Specifically for the launch posts on social media, we knew we wanted to generate excitement, so we worked closely with our content creator, Rob, to produce a series of fun teaser videos. These were rolled out on our social media channels four days before the launch, culminating in the grand reveal on the fifth day.

It was such a pleasure to be part of the rebrand launch for We Do Marketing and work alongside our awesome team members to ensure a smooth and successful launch. I am so excited to see what the future holds for We Do Marketing.

I was excited to first hear about our plans to rebrand. We help our clients with rebrands and updates, so working on ours was so exciting.

When planning this change, one of the first thoughts was to reassure our amazing clients that this is just a cosmetic makeover. Behind the scenes, it’s the same dedication and services you expect.

My job was to ensure we told our clients before anyone else and to make it fun! We decided to do this with a surprise Boomf Box delivery, which brought a smile to their faces and a little bit of joy to their day!

The Boomf box instantly informed clients about our rebrand, showing off our new brand colours, assets, and fonts. Alongside this, a QR code went through to a video of our Director, Lydia, explaining more about the evolution of our brand and why this change felt right at this moment in time. Behind everything we do, there is always an answer to ‘why?’, and we wanted to let our clients know exactly what that was.

After working with the team for 4 years, it was incredibly exciting to become a part of my first in-house rebrand.

My main task was to develop the new website, and make sure it reflected the new We Do Marketing brand.

Our designer provided webpage mock-ups and layouts, that I would then develop into functional website pages.

My favourite portion of the website that I loved developing was the team pages. Being able to present everyone’s skills, expertise and personality all in one place, was a great opportunity to show who We Do Marketing actually are, and let our clients really see the WDM the way we see it.

Joining I Do Marketing whilst they were re-branding has been super exciting for me. Not only have I been able to learn a lot from the transition but it’s also meant I’ve got to be involved in a lot of fun projects.

When you think of a re-brand, you immediately think of the big stuff like a new website, new logo, new social pages etc. And although I’ve booked in photo shoots and edited our blogs, it doesn’t really cross your mind that the everyday stuff needs updating too. New mugs, new laptop cases, office refurb materials. Sounds a bit silly, but it’s these little details that make such a difference in the re-brand being a cohesive success.

It’s also important to remember that there were a lot of moving parts along the way, so being a support to the team was probably the most crucial part. At We Do Marketing, our entire ethos is about working collaboratively together to provide the best outcome for our clients and for each other really. So being able to help my team during this time with whatever they needed to make the re-brand a success has been hugely rewarding. I’m very much looking forward to being a part of this new journey as WDM.

My role in the rebrand was to create engaging video content that not only told the story behind the big change but also built anticipation leading up to the reveal.

I sat down with Lydia to interview her about the journey from I Do Marketing to We Do Marketing, capturing the evolution of the brand. We also filmed the team in action to showcase their dynamic, collaborative approach.

My favourite part? The teaser reels. We packed up boxes, crossed out logos, and even threw things in the bin (convincing Lydia to trust me on that one!). The goal was to spark curiosity, and it worked—there were plenty of wild guesses before the big reveal.

My goal was to evolve the look and feel of the brand while staying true to what made I Do Marketing unique. A strong brand identity isn’t just about looking good, it’s about communicating a message, a personality, and a feeling.

I wanted the new design to reflect the agency’s collaborative nature and strategic approach, so every visual choice was intentional. The colour palette was expanded to introduce more vibrancy and flexibility while keeping the signature purple as a link to the brand’s history. The addition of the yellow, blue, and darker navy added warmth, contrast, and fresh energy to our visual identity.

One of the most exciting parts of the process was developing the custom brand shapes. Of course, these elements aren’t just random designs; they are derived from the letters W, E, D, and O. However, their subtleness ensures they don’t overshadow the accompanying message. By abstracting these forms, we created a visual language that’s dynamic, recognisable, and uniquely us. These shapes will be a key part of our branding across print, digital, and motion.

Typography also played a crucial role in reinforcing our new identity. The fonts we chose balance professionalism with approachability. They’re modern, clean, and structured, but never rigid or impersonal. The goal was to create a brand that feels both refined and human, just like the work we do for our clients.

Seeing everything come together has been incredibly rewarding. The new brand is bold, confident, and now unmistakably We Do Marketing, and I’m so excited to see it out in the real world.

As a team, it has taken a lot of hard work to ensure all previous assets have been updated after the new brand was launched, but all of our hard work has now paid off, and it’s time to show off our new look to the world. We’ve all loved working on this project and look forward to hearing what others think about it.
